Chris Larsen was born and raised in Oakland, California where he worked in estate sales and grew an appreciation for architectural preservation during a time of great transformation within the city. He went to Bennington College in the green mountains of Vermont and studied preservation, architecture, and the advancement of public action, while simultaneously building alternative energy contraptions and boats and exploring the rural way of life some Americans continue to live. He briefly worked at two architectural and cultural preservation nonprofits in San Francisco and New Orleans, fighting demolition of historic properties and businesses. After driving back and forth across the country searching for place and resonance, he drove to Portland to join friends and family, and to dive into the fight to keep Portland a vibrant, unique city where small business and regular folks thrive. He is an avid mechanical antiques collector, restorationist, and lives and breaths history.
