BIPOC-Focused Intro to Carpentry: Tables & Benches - $90

  • ReBuilding Center 3625 N Mississippi Ave Portland, OR, 97227 United States (map)

This class is curated for anyone who identifies as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color, but is open to all.

We are curating this experience specifically to support a safe and welcoming experience for our BIPOC friends and neighbors to come together to learn basic carpentry skills. This class features the same content as our popular Tables and Benches class, which is offered at least monthly, and is also open to all.

In this class you can build a new garden bench, a plant stand, or maybe a catch-all next to the front door. Using our very simple design and reclaimed lumber, you’ll make a simple table or bench while gaining skills and confidence to use in future DIY projects. (Maximum size: 24” on each side)

This is a project-based class. Come with a basic idea and leave with your new piece of custom furniture!

Topics covered:

  • Measuring & marking accurately

  • Using chop saws safely

  • Drills and drivers

  • Using finish nail guns

Skill level: This class is ideal for beginners ages 18 and over as well as 16 and 17 year-olds with parent or guardian permission.

Class Schedule: Class will run for 3 hours with no break planned
