Coming Fall 2026:
Community Solar at ReBuilding Center
The ReBuilding Center is launching a community solar project at our North Portland campus.
Solar panels were installed in January 2026, and we are now working with partners to bring the system online in Fall 2026. Once operational, the project will generate clean energy for our facility and help reduce electricity costs for approximately 50 low-income households.
Funded by the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF), this project is developed in partnership with Elemental Energy, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, and Pacific Power. It is part of the Oregon Community Solar Program, overseen by the Oregon Public Utility Commission.
At the ReBuilding Center, climate action is embedded in everything we do—from keeping materials in use, to building skills, to expanding access to resources that reduce environmental impact. This project extends that work into clean energy at the community scale.
How Community Solar Works
Community solar is a shared system. You don’t need to install anything or own your home.
Participants subscribe and receive credits directly on their utility bill.
Why It Matters + What This Makes Possible
Access to renewable energy is not equal. This model lowers costs and removes barriers while expanding who benefits.
Lower electricity costs
Access to renewable energy without ownership
Reduced carbon emissions
A practical, community-based climate solution
