ReBuilding Center’s premiere event of the year!

Thank you all who joined us and shared your time, talent, and funds to make 2023 the best Salvage Showdown yet!

Fun was had, art was made, games were played, and OVER $38,000 raised to support ReBuilding Center & our work in the community.

The Salvage Showdown is a celebration of what makes the Rebuilding Center special. It is a celebration of creative reuse, of our community, and of the work we do year-round to harness reuse & repair as tools for climate justice. It is a competition. It is an event. And, yes, a fundraiser, too!

The Builds

What can 20+ BUILDERS do with ONE MONTH & $100 in reclaimed materials?

Check out the BUILDERS’ GALLERY to find out! All the Salvage Showdown Builds were raffled off in support of ReBuilding Center and our work out in the community.

The Competition

Build with Us!

Do you hear whispers when you wander through the aisles of reclaimed treasures as of yet unknown? This is the event for you!

Builders will create something useful yet unexpected for one of four categories: Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, and Garden. It may be a table with a twist, a cupboard bursting with whimsy, a garden bench worthy of gnome’s abode. Builders are encouraged to craft the wonderfully weird, fabulously fantastic, lyrically lovely.

Application deadline TBD.

Want to be a Builder but don’t feel confident in your skills? Learn with us! ReBuilding Center offers classes in woodworking, mosaic-making, and so much more!

    1. Application Deadline TBD

    2. Builders can be individuals or teams.

    3. Builds must serve some sort of useful function.

    4. Builders must use only materials sourced from ReBuilding Center. On Builder’s Night this July, each will choose up to $100 worth of anything for sale in the store. Some items unavailable in the store may be approved.

    5. Builders must incorporate at least three different types of material into their creation, i.e. wood, metal, tile, etc.

    6. Builders will compete within one of 4 categories: Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, or Garden. When you apply, you may choose however many categories for which you would like to be considered. We will be selecting five Builders per category.

    7. The Builds must delivered to ReBuilding Center TBD

  • Up to 20 Builders will be invited to vie for the elusive Scrappy! If we receive more applications than we have slots, Builder applications will be assessed by the entire ReBuilding Center team. We will be evaluating applicants with an eye toward: a commitment to reuse, a diverse pool of Builders, and an even distribution within categories.

  • On Builders’ Night, the Builders will gather at ReBuilding Center to choose $100 of reclaimed wood, metal, glass, tile, and anything else that strikes their fancy.

They will have one month to fashion a unique creation of functional art for a room in the home - Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, or Garden.

The Builds must delivered and ready for installation in the ReBuilding Center Pop-Up Gallery by 6pm on August 27, 2023.

  • For the three weeks leading up to the Main Event, the Builds will be on display in the ReBuilding Center Pop-Up Gallery!

Customers and supporters will purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the finished pieces. The Builder with the most raffle tickets with The Scrappy!

Tickets will be available online and in the Store until the evening of the Main Event.
